I did manage to get some ANSI color going on the Boot Factory BBS today. I plan to add more in the coming days... while the BBS will not actually display an ANSI screen, what it does do is translate some color codes in the ASCII files for users who call in ANSI mode and select 80 columns in their [P]arameter settings. Currently it only works for 80 column menus and screens, Maybe I will add it to 40 cols... I don't know.
The same thing goes for VT52 support although I have no way of testing those codes, I did add some. Perhaps someone could suggest a VT52 terminal program that runs on a PC.
On the subject of 40 col ANSI, as discussed with DarkLord, I don't think there is a single 40 col terminal that does ANSI (at least not with color to the point where it's worth the effort) on any machine.
For VT52, since you know how to do VM's, you can do Hatari on Linux for calling out with actual ST terms. This much works fine enough. Running a BBS, not so much as far as I've tried since some of the critical controls don't work (but that's another post for another time)... Calling out is doable. I'm really not aware of any PC term that did VT52 to an acceptable level (the Atari VT52, from what I understand is... as with all things Atari... something slightly not so like standard?
I'm thinking it's a suitable topic for the Zoom call on the 18th and a nice sequel to what we talked about this past Sunday. :)
I wish my BBS (BBS:Express Pro v2.1a) had true ANSI support. You can set your terminal to ANSI and select ANSI when you login and then set your [P]arameters to 80 cols and then you will see colorized prompts but it cannot display any ANSI screens. They are not supported.
But I do know in later versions of BBS:Express Pro, ANSI screens were supported... just not in 2.1a.
I have an idea how to support a main menu and other menus that you launch from the main prompt. A module could display the desired file depending on the translation mode. That would be a new module that I'd have to write. Wouldn't be difficult. Just need to find the time. Maybe at the end of this month or in September after the kids go back to school. Summer activities have kept me very busy.

Try logging into The Basement with ANSI sometime. We have a welcome screen in ANSI. It's worth a look at least once. ;-)
