As far as I can tell, it's definitely something weird going on with my LinkSys router's WiFi. When I've got a little extra time, I'll take the advice that's been
given to me and reset to factory defaults then redo my settings.
Regardless, DarkForce equipped with the WiModem 232 seems to be performing very well, so I think we can now consider this issue resolved.
Okay, with the Lantronx UDS-10 set to RAW (if it's telnet downloads won't even start), and attached to my Mega STe, I connected to DarkForce and successfully downloaded every file I tried.
No CRC errors, no subpackets too long, no timeouts. Fast and clean.
So it's got to be the Linksys WiFi doing something really strange. I don't have a clue, nor where to start. :(
At DarkForce, we've now switched over to the WiModem 232.
I need everyone who can to try downloading and report back here if it's successful or not.
Please post all pertinent information. For example, computer type, OS, telecomms software, whether you're using a WiModem 232, UDS-10 (or family) etc, etc,...
Thanks everyone.
PS I'm unable to successfully download using my Atari Mega STe and a WiModem 232. If anyone has a similar setup, I'd love to see how it's
Connected with Atari 130XE using 850, Wimodem Attached, Mydos ATR with BobTerm 1.2 connected in VT52 Mono. Downloaded a file, Transfer completed. Uploaded a file (STterm) File Sent Complete - Confirmed. Raw Mode, 9600 baud.
No issues - Seems to work just fine. I will test with other devices, modems, emulators as well.
So the issue seems to be not DarkForce with the WiModem 232 with anything else, but rather between it and my Mega STe with it's WiModem 232.
The question of the day is, why?
If I were to do an "ati" and an "at&v" to show my settings, snapshot them and post them here, do you think someone could see if I have something snafu'ed?
Added a quick video on how to download with SyncTerm Mac OSX. Pretty much the same except you use Alt-D VS the Mac Option D to access the SyncTerm downloads
Did this get resolved? Southern Amis has the initial issues with SyncTerm as its not CRC xmodem but after the initial check, it switches to 8bit xmodem.. Thought this was a file issue but checking back..
Almost forgot - Southern Amis or Amis XE bbs's run in RAW not Telnet in case anyone else has an issue with SyncTerm, change your connection type to RAW
Totally whaled on the bbs, taking down those wares.. FoReM ST included..
Hmm, believe it or not, it looks like it was actually busy. Here is a small section of the caller log:

Wimodem Live on Darkforce - Benefit of the Wimodem, notification of a busy Node.

Okay, was up late last night (nothing unusual there) so I fired up my
STacy, with the 3rd WiModem 232 that I bought and tried to down
load from DarkForce. Same exact results, failed with either/and/or
CRC error, subpackets too long, timed out.
I tried going with my LAN's IP address (192.168.x.xxx) as well as
the usual darkforce-bbs.dyndns.org blah, blah, blah. That makes
no difference either.
Starting to think it's something in my Linksys WiFi but I have no
idea what it could be.
Think I'll break a Lantronix UDS-10 back out, put it on my Mega
STe and see if it will download then. It's a straight to LAN CAT5
cable connection and no WiFi involved.
Will report back once I've tried it...
Also, can some of you call DarkForce, start a download and then
deliberately abort the transfer.
I want to see if what happens to me happens to you.
Okay, just for the fun of it, I disconnected my Kubuntu Linux laptop from the LAN and reconnected it via WiFi.
I then launched SyncTerm, connected to DarkForce and downloaded a file. The file did download successfully, but look at SyncTerm's output:
(maybe I have something going on with my WiFi?)
I did try also with STalker. Same results. I'll try a couple of others and see what happens...
Try another term program... 😁
Well, I compared the 2. The only differences I could find was:
baud rate - 19.2k vs 9600 - should make no difference.
D0 vs D1 - DCD polarity inverted. I tried both - made no difference.
X0 vs X1 - just shows more detail, like your connection speed at logon, again
should make no difference.
So.... <shrugs>
Okay, here is a screen shot of TAZ, running on my Atari Mega STe, with a WiModem 232. It shows the results of "ati" and "at&v".
Please look it over and see if you can spot anything set incorrectly.
Thanks.
I have no idea why that address is greyed out and other parts underlined...
:)
Oh, in case anyone is not familiar with DarkForce, it's:
telnet darkforce-bbs.dyndns.org 520
and the translation mode is "raw", not "telnet".
Thanks.

Never mind - finally got this to work. I guess it just takes practice. :)
Thanks!
Still unable to download with Win10 and SyncTerm v1.1.
Port is set to 23, and translation is "RAW".
It asks if I want to use Xmodem. When I say yes, it just sets there
before eventually timing out.
If I say no, it then fills the screen with what looks like ATASCII characters.
This time, I didn't even get as far as I did in my first post. :(
