Hey all,
As some of you may or may not know I have been experiencing some weird stuttering on BBS’s ever since the new year. Before then (when I was active) I don’t recall it or at least not this bad.
I have tried using a non u1m Atari, run Sdx with no or minimal config files, tried with the Fujinet and mydos bobterm atr.
At first thought it was the internet. I have the downstairs extender/satellite hard wired to the main router via MoCA (that is a whole other story). Tried a few things still getting the stuttering.
Went in deep to the wimodem config. Played around with those. Same result.
I have checked my connection of the wimodem to the satellite and it is (seems) rock solid.
It is usually only noticeable when typing something in. The text files seem to display pretty smoothly.
The only thing, internet wise, I haven’t moved the satellite back closer to the Atari desk. I can now do that since I can “hardwire” the satellite to the router with the MoCA adapters.
Now, does anyone else have this issue?
I am still pretty convinced it is an internet issue but I have tried a pile of options all resulting in the same problem. I would have thought there would have been some change. Either for the better or worse but no change.
I am on the 11/2022 firmware on the wimodem.
Just thought I’d ask here before I go more crazy. (I have not gotten myself to the point of pulling out the lantronix yet. As that will be relearning how that works again. Lord knows how long that will take me. Lol)
Can't say I have experienced the st st st st stut stutter.. Works well for me..Just to narrow things down, maybe try one instance of Altirra/one BBS online at a time. Might be your hardware and not your internet..
I have seen your posts but you know me. Too lazy to comprehend. lol!
I did look at the buffer. I am assuming we are referring to the at*bl command. I was looking at the manual and it indicated that the max on that was 1460.
Well I quickly went down and moved the extender so when I go back down and boot up I will let yaw’ll know my results.
Well, if you've followed any of my threads, here or over at CBMStuff, you'd know I've had all kinds of issues with the WiModem232 and my home setup.
It's done "stuttering" or pauses, or whatever you want to call it. I did finally get it ironed out at one point with 19.2k or seemed to anyway. I played with the buffers on the WiModem, finally just keeping it maxed out at 8192. I keep flow control turned on, and that's what's advised by Jim Drew.
Now I've upgraded my ST's serial port to handle 38.4 and I'm seeing something (but not quite) like I did before. bf2k+ has messaged me a couple of times that he's seeing long pauses occasionally when he's typing. I've had (rarely) a couple of momentary pauses happen, but nothing more than that.
Downloading is a whole different problem. I had Zmodem downloads working great at 19.2k and Xmodem uploads. Now, I can't get anything besides Flash with Xmodem to download successfully at 19.2k.
Win10 with SyncTerm, Kubuntu Linux with SyncTerm, and my Mega STe on serial port2/LAN with CoNnect 95 and STalker all download fine at 38.4k.
Oh...the above with my Mega STe is *only* if I'm using a Lantronix UDS10. If I put the WiModem232 in there, with the exact same setup, it epically fails... :(
I'm going to do some more experimenting with the UDS10 on DarkForce! instead of the WiModem and see what happens then. I really don't want to go back to the UDS10 though. The WiModem is so cool but for whatever reason(s), it and my home WiFi setup just don't seem to get along well.
I hope you can get your problems resolved soon.
PS The Lantronix isn't that bad to deal with. 😀
