TattlerSolutions WiModem

The project begins with well TattlerSolutions provided WiFiModem https://tempestfpga.com/ and the Hayes SmartModem Case purchased on EBay

Part three I guess is cleaning the case. Forgot how heavy these modems are.

Remove the SmartModem Board - simple after removing two screws

The board sizes are the same as well as led and speaker placements. Great job on the board layout!

Can’t just let that beauty of a dial up modem go without some kind of case.. Step one - bottom of the replacement 3D printed case for the Hayes Smart Modem complete. Top printing this week and a few ideas to replicate the LED front panel

Let me know if there are other settings I need to share. I also tried it again, and I heard the modem connection sound before getting a “No Answer”.

Just now, I was able to get a busy signal if I put in a bogus domain for a telnet address like bbb.dd.net:9000. But if I put in a legit domain but otherwise bad Telnet address, I get the ring, carrier, and then NO ANSWER message. For example: bbb.ddns.net:9000.

We got the busy signal during our demo, but it was because I hadn't set up the wifi connection yet. And then I think I got it again when I had forgot the quotes around the "phone number"... but I never heard the 'connection' sound and then got the busy signal after that.

It's really a great upgrade! I love mine. However, I did find it a little silly when I got a "NO ANSWER" message from the modem after hearing the dial tone and carrier. It may not be easy to add, but it would be really cool if the modem could just ring and time out or give a busy signal in the case of "NO ANSWER". 😁

This is pretty cool. I have to admit, I was scouring feebay last night for a hayes smartmodem case in good shape, then a chronograph, then... I had to stop, it was getting expensive. ;)

Dont worry about the cosmetics.. Its brushed aluminium so its easy to fix any blemishes or scratches. As long as the front plate is good, pick up the cheapest one you can find.. Still pretty sought after so 30 bucks is about the normal price for a 1200
