I posted about this over on several sites and wanted to share the pics to give you a better view. Our first trip for 2022 is 4/22/2022 - 4/24/2022. Looking forward to getting her back out and enjoying that escape from reality.
@mhansel739Looks really nice. You know, once upon a time, families that were filthy rich would own their own sleeper train car. It was a great way for them to see the country. Those were the predecessor of campers today. :)
@John Polka you know a few months ago Leo Laporte was talking about traveling and apparently you can buy a train car for around 250k or so and you can attach it to a traveling train for $x a mile. I can’t remember all the details but it sounded like a good deal for bunch of people to go in on it.
that is something I would love to do. I’ll have to look back at the show notes and see if I can find the show where they talked about it.
@Craig Abruzzese Sounds cool. I wasn't sure if that was still a thing. But it makes sense since people love nostalgia (and not just us retro computer folks 😀)
Honestly, it kind of is. I just opened it up today. Plugged it in and put out the slideout. I forgot how roomie it gets when you do that. I was telling the wife I am ready to sleep in it again. She just rolls her eyes.
That’s my kind of camping! My wife never liked the thought of being away from civilization.
Our family had a house in greentown,pa right on lake waulenpaulpak in the pennsylvania poconos. It was a 1970s modular home so when we first got got Together there was still yellow and orange wallpaper. It was slowly falling in disrepair but I enjoyed it up there just to get away. She tolerated the first few years we were together but then she would never stay over there.
I would end up going up in late October before it was closed up for
the winter. Funny thing was it was in a little community so it wasn’t exactly like we were in the middle of no where but she wouldnt have it. Lol. The family sold the house a bunch of years ago. Every so often we will take a ride up there just to see what the house looks like but that is as close as we come to camping. 🤣
I get that feeling of being too far away from "anything". But, like you said, you had a quaint little community that probably had most of what you needed. I like the idea of taking the camper to different campgrounds around the state (Michigan), as well as other places. You are "away" from civilization, but you are close enough to get what you need. Plus, it is typically less expensive than getting a hotel for a few nights. But, that is changing too. Some of the full-hookup sites are getting expensive. They have lots of stuff to offer for kids (and we don't have any littles running around anymore), so it is like $65-80 per night. Still cheaper than the hotel.
