In case anyone else finds this interesting or helpful, here's an overview of how I installed a new PSU (from Centurion) into my Mega ST4. I tried to keep the soldering and other connections as pretty and clean as possible, but I'm a novice at that stuff so go easy, LOL. One thing I want to call out is that although Centurion boasts about their STPSU r2022 being completely plug and play with no extra work, that isn't always the case. The white and black wires on the Mega ST connections were too short to reach the new PSU connectors, so I had to cut old ones off, clean it up, and install new 18 AWG 600V wires. I had the exact same experience with my STe when I replaced the PSU a couple years ago (using a Centurion PSU). I'd still buy the Centurion PSU again if I ever needed one, but just wish they would either relocate the connectors to be closer to the original wires, or mention that you'll probably need to solder on new wires when installing. Posting this info here in case anyone else finds it useful, or I need to reference it again in the future since it would be easier than trying to find my own notes on it. HHBBS is currently running Carina 2.7 in Altirra, using WINE on Linux Mint. Here's a brief summary of what was involved in setting this up: 1. Install Linux Mint (I'm running 21.2 at the time) 2. https://www.linuxcapable.com/how-to-install-wine-on-linux-mint/ (https://www.linuxcapable.com/how-to-install-wine-on-linux-mint/) Follow the instructions on this link to install Wine (the version of Wine in the repositories is old and won't work properly with the BBS, so make sure you use WINE version 8.0) 3. https://www.noip.com/download?page=linux (https://www.noip.com/download?page=linux) Assuming you're using NO-IP for your hostname, download the Linux version from this link and follow the instructions for installing it. You will need to use the sudo command each time you run it. 4. Grab the latest version of busyBBS and place it somewhere in your Linux directories. 5. Assuming your BBS runs under Altirra, copy everything over to your Linux machine and place it somewhere in your Linux directories. To boot up the BBS: 1. Open a Terminal window and run the NO-IP program from the command line 2. Then run the busyBBS program from the command line 3. Open a second Terminal window and run the WINE program that launches Altirra; boot up your BBS Notes: • I cannot get WINE to work on the internet via ethernet cable; it only works on WIFI • Turn off the Firewall in Linux Mint, or it may not allow incoming connections I think that's it, but feel free to ask questions if you're interested in knowing more.

Hey everyone, I decided to have some fun so I installed Ubuntu 22.04 and managed to get SyncTerm installed (it installed 1.2b version). Everything is working great, except when I connect to 8bit boards using ATASCII, my Backspace key doesn't do anything when I'm writing messages. If I connect using ASCII or connect to an ST board using ANSI, backspace key works fine. For some reason when I'm logged on using ATASCII, the Backspace key doesn't do anything when writing messages. Is this common and there is a work-around that I don't know about? Thanks, Jason

Hey everyone, if you have an 850 Interface or an ICD P:R: Connection, what cable is needed to connect this to a WiModem232? The 9-pin ports on the 850 Interface and P:R: Connection are both female. When I look at the CX-88 and CX-87 cables, the 9-pin ports are also female, so they won't work. Do I also need a gender changer of some sort to plug in between the 850 and the CX-88 or CX-87 cable? Is it the CX-88 cable I need or the CX-87? I think one is a null modem and one is a regular modem, but I could be wrong. Anyways, I'm just looking for a "How to connect a WiModem232 to an 850/P:R: Connection for Dummies" book kind of thing. Thanks, Jason

Hey everyone, I've read the manual and searched the internet a bunch of times so this is either not possible, or I just keep missing it. Each time I power off and on my ST and Wimodem232, it boots up and always defaults to a 300 baud rate. Then, in the terminal program I need to type "AT*B9600" to set the Wimodem to 9600, and then set the terminal program to 9600 as well. Question: Is there a way to save the baud rate of 9600 directly in the Wimodem so I don't need to keep typing AT*B9600 each time I power on everything? Thanks

Looking for anyone who has experience using the HDDRIVER and UltraSatan with Megafile on an ST. I installed the HDDRIVER on the Megafile as ID 0 and everything is working fine. Partitions look good and it always boots. Then I re-configurated my UltraSatan so that its SD Cards were IDs 1 and 2 so that they wouldn't conflict with the Megafile. I plugged it into the Megafile and ran the HDDRIVER Utilities and it sees the SD Card just fine. I partitioned the SD Card so that it has one 250MB drive and that's it. I also inserted it in my Windows PC and copied some files to it, then back to the UltraSatan and copied those files onto the Megafile. Everything looks good. That was yesterday. Now today I boot up and the SD Card in the UltraSatan is completely blank. No partitions, no data. The HDDRIVER utilities will let me partition and recreate it just fine, but I'm wondering what happened to it since yesterday when I had already done all of that. Anyone ever had strange experiences with the HDDRIVER and the Megafile / UltraSatan? Thanks, Jason

Just looking for some advice. I'll be picking up a Mega ST4 and a Megafile sometime within the next couple of weeks. I have no experience with the Mega ST's since I've only owned regular ST's / STE's in the past. Is there a particular version of TOS that I should be looking at getting if the Mega ST comes with an older one? Or does it matter? The reason I ask is that I've heard the Megafiles sometimes have issues with older version of TOS. I don't know what the most 'recent' version of TOS is for the Mega's, so I suppose that would be another question I have. Any other advice regarding the Mega ST's is also appreciated. It also comes with some Eiffel thing to allow connecting of a PS/2 keyboard and mouse since the Mega keyboard is not included; and also has a Viking video card in it, which is probably useless since you can't find the monitor anywhere for it. So I'll probably just use my SM124 here. Thanks. Jason

I've seen various posts on the BBS's with questions around setting up SD Cards for SIDE cartridges. I originally wanted to create one for my own SIDE2 that had APT partitions (like a hard drive for the 8-bit in SDX), FAT16 partitions (to transfer files from PC and read them in SDX), and a FAT32 partitions (to access games and programs using the SIDE Loader). It took a while to figure it out and some help from Jeff W., but I put together step-by-step instructions on how to do it so I don't forget it again. I have attached them to this post in case it's helpfull to anyone else.

Hey everyone, just curious to know if anyone has any particular security / configurations to lock down their Windows PC that runs a BBS in Altirra. I'm using a separate Windows laptop and the computer isn't shared with any other machines on the network in terms of drives or folders. It runs McAfee Virus and Firewall and I occasionally receive notices of it stopping intrusions from time to time. Is there anything else I should do to this machine to keep it 'secure'? The reason I ask is that I'd eventually like to have it sharing folders with my other PC so that I can move files back and forth, but at the moment, I have the BBS machine on its own since I'm not totally sure I have all of the necessary security in place on it. Thanks, Jason

As requested on HHBBS, here is a link to the site that I came across a month or so ago that has numerous programs, door games, and utilities for some BBS programs (and specifically a good assortment for Carina). The link will take you to the Carina section, but you can navigate through the Parent Directories and others to see other BBS programs supported.
