Basement on the Web
In case you did not know, there is a small website for the Basement BBS located at the following link. Besides the general information about the BBS, it also contains a portal for connecting to the Basement with ATASCII. There are also some old message base archives, including some saved messages from when the Basement ran original 850 Express! in 1987. It's also the web server that provides the nightly Atari BBS Status update. Check it out at the following link: http://basementbbs.ddns.net:7000/ -JP

I wish I still had a working copy of the Basement BBS from when it first went online in 1986. I would’ve loved to archive some of the old messages from that original version. Back then, I was running MPP AMIS. I still have the physical disk — but sadly, it’s corrupted beyond repair.
I’m pretty sure I switched to the original 850 BBS Express in 1987, partly because I wanted a BBS that would actually hang up when users disconnected. At the time, I was using the Supra 300AT modem, which — like the MPP1000E — didn’t properly disconnect users. Ironically, you needed the older MPP1000C to handle that correctly.
I don’t remember what I did with the Supra when I made the switch to BBS Express!, but I do remember upgrading to a P:R: Connection with an Avatex 1200 modem. Good times.
