ICD R-Time 8
It bothered me that wasn't a clear how-to on reading the RT8 aside from ICD assembly source.
Not willing to mess around with it in C any more than I already had, I dropped back to figuring it out in BASIC. If I can make it work there, its easy to move to C. From BASIC I can do all kinds of interactive stuff, numeric conversions, and string manipulation without a build cycle.
I read, and re-read, and re-read what little documentation there is and created a test program. Short and skinny, I got it to work. I'm going to write the process up in a blog post with both BASIC and C source (once I convert it to C). Its not straightforward, and requires a bit of string manipulation in Atari BASIC (would be much easier in C or Action!).
Here's the proof. Each set of 2 numbers is a poll of the TD register (sec, min, hour, day, month, year). The single numbers following are the converted result that is the actual value. At the bottom the time and date is displayed nicely.
